ABU DHABI

MARITIME MUSEUM, UAE

TOURISM DEVELOPMENT INVESTMENT COMPANY (TDIC) (420 MILLION USD)

Description

The Maritime Museum, designed by Architect Tadao Ando, celebrates Abu Dhabi’s maritime heritage and explores the local population’s long relationship with the sea. The simple building design combines space, light, and water inside and out, seamlessly blending the building’s interior and exterior to ensure that the Arabian Gulf is the museum’s most stunning exhibit.

The Maritime Museum structure is 108m long; a cave-like opening carved diagonal through the mass penetrates 36 m wide and 27m high block and includes four galleries, aquariums, three restaurants ts, a convention centre, a reflection park and Marina facilities.

The Maritime Museum Project is still in the schematic design phase, and construction is not intended to commence until 2019. Currently, the seawalls for the adjoining Marina are being constructed to prepare for the pending Maritime Museum Project.
